Russia and India are considering ways to significantly increase their mutual tourist flows, with the goal of having up to 5 million trips by 2030. The practical solutions needed to achieve this goal include liberalizing visa procedures and improving transport connectivity, Director of the Department of Multilateral Economic Cooperation and Special Projects of the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation Nikita Kondratyev said at the first meeting of the Russian-Indian Working Group on Tourism in Moscow. The Indian side was represented at the meeting by Joint Secretary of the Indian Ministry of Tourism Mebanshailang R. Synrem.

During the discussion, the parties identified priorities for their joint work: from simplifying entry procedures and expanding the air route network to coordinating marketing efforts and creating comfortable financial infrastructure for tourists.

Launching a visa-free regime for tourist groups was another item on the meeting agenda. India is currently considering the Russian draft agreement. After technical procedures have been completed, the parties plan to proceed with its practical implementation.

At the meeting, the Indian Ministry of Tourism was invited to present the country’s tourism potential at the Let’s Travel! International Tourism Forum, which will take place on 10–14 June 2026.

“The Forum is a key event for the Russian tourism industry and brings together a large number of foreign representatives of government agencies and businesses each year,” Nikita Kondratyev said.

The Let’s Travel! International Tourism Forum traditionally provides a platform for engaging in meaningful dialogue, launching joint initiatives, and strengthening international ties in the tourism sector.
