The Expert Council under the Ministry of Economic Development has approved a new national tourist route – the Golden Ring. This was announced on the sidelines of the Let’sTravel! International Tourism Forum by Deputy Minister of Economic Development of the Russian Federation Dmitry Vakhrukov.

The route offers tourists the opportunity to visit Moscow, Sergiev Posad, Pereslavl-Zalessky, Rostov Veliky, Yaroslavl, Kostroma, Ivanovo, Suzdal, and Vladimir, which are vivid examples of Russian history and culture.

“National status will allow the route to develop more dynamically: the number of services provided by tour operators and travel agents will increase, and the tourist infrastructure will improve, which will contribute to an increase in the number of tourist trips. These routes not only offer interesting excursion options, but also enrich travellers with new meanings and ideologies that highlight the richness and diversity of Russian culture. I would like to note that the route will be presented in the coming days as part of the 5th Let’s Travel! International Tourism Forum,” said Deputy Minister of Economic Development of the Russian Federation Dmitry Vakhrukov.

The Golden Ring route connects key attractions, including masterpieces of ancient Russian architecture, UNESCO World Heritage sites and natural treasures – unique natural areas that are particularly valuable for the preservation of ecosystems and biodiversity.

Its proximity to Moscow (within a radius of 200–300 km) makes the Golden Ring ideal for short trips. A well-developed network of bus tours and railway connections allows travellers to cover key points in 3–7 days. Classic bus tours, river cruises along the Volga and weekend railway routes make this itinerary accessible and convenient for tourists.

“Moscow and the regions of central Russia are mutually popular tourist destinations. According to the results of 2024, the Vladimir and Yaroslavl regions were among the top 10 regions from which tourists most often visit Moscow, and more than 40% of the capital’s residents travelling around Russia visit the regions of the Central Federal District. The route will help increase tourist flows, and the RUSSPASS digital service, which will become its main technological platform, will make planning trips along the Golden Ring easier and more convenient. A special page for the new national tourist route is currently being developed on RUSSPASS,” noted Evgeny Kozlov, First Deputy Head of Moscow Mayor’s Office and Government, Chairman of Moscow City Tourism Committee.

The Travel Forum is being held at VDNKh from 10 to 15 June. The Forum is organized by the Roscongress Foundation in conjunction with the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation, with support from the Government of the Russian Federation and the Moscow Committee for Tourism.
